The Chicago Historical Society is home to an outstanding collection of documents and artifacts that trace the birth and evolution of a great metropolis. But in a city with an abundance of museums, CHS was incorrectly perceived as a place of old papers and dusty relics. The museum experienced flat attendance and declining membership in much of the 1990s, a period when many of Chicago's other major cultural institutions experienced dramatic growth. The museum asked Lipman Hearne to develop and implement marketing efforts that would raise the museum's profile and attract visitors, members, and philanthropic support.
