The Golden Apple Foundation was founded in 1987 as an awards program to recognize excellent Chicago-area teachers. Since then it has evolved into an educational brain trust—a group of education leaders who are authorities on best practices in teacher recruitment and training. Like other organizations that confer awards, the Foundation is perceived as being wealthy, when in fact it lacks a sizable endowment and depends largely upon philanthropic support. The Foundation asked Lipman Hearne to develop a positioning and graphic identity to support its expanded mission.
