The MacArthur Foundation is one of the nation’s largest private grantmaking institutions. The MacArthur Fellows Program awards unrestricted fellowships---popularly known as “genius grants”---to talented individuals who have shown extraordinary originality and dedication to their creative pursuits. Lipman Hearne was engaged to handle all media relations for the 2000 Fellows program. While the awards have traditionally received substantial print coverage, the Foundation wished to achieve strong broadcast coverage as well.
