Shellie Byrum brings seven years of health and science communications experience to Lipman Hearne. Her background ranges from advocacy and media relations to patient and provider education to stakeholder engagement and digital strategy.
Prior to joining Lipman Hearne, Shellie served as Senior Account Executive at Spectrum Science Communications, a leading health care public relations agency in Washington, DC. There her clients included advocacy, hospital, trade and pharmaceutical organizations, including the American Association of Cancer Research, Partnership for Prevention, American Society for Clinical Oncology, Lung Cancer Alliance, and RESOLVE: The National Infertility Association. Having worked closely with health care providers, patients, caregivers and patient advocates throughout her tenure at Spectrum, Shellie brings a unique perspective to integrated, two-way communications programs within the health care space.
Shellie prides herself on mixing traditional communications methods with emerging tools in a strategic and results-oriented manner. She has managed full-scale public service announcement campaigns as well as multiple multimedia projects, including websites, bilingual podcast series and videos. She also has hands-on experience managing award-winning digital initiatives, including the premiere social media program for Kennedy Krieger Institute, a pediatric hospital focused on children with developmental disabilities.
Before joining Spectrum, Shellie held communications positions at the UNC Lineberger Cancer Center and the Ronald McDonald House. She graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a B.A. in journalism and mass communication with a concentration in public relations.
